Green Purchasing Policy
 
  1. SCOPE: This Green Purchasing Policy applies to all purchasing at 10 East 53rd Street located at 10 East 53rd Street, New York, NY. This plan was established August 2020 and is reviewed annually, and shall continue indefinitely or until amended and/or replaced by a subsequent policy.
 
  1. GOALS: All materials and products purchased for use at the property must successfully comply with the characteristics found below to aid in reducing environmental impacts and fall under the EPA’s list of designated products.
 
  1. IMPLEMENTATION – The following characteristics are to be found in materials purchased for the building:
    1. Recycled materials
    2. Production process conserves natural resources
    3. Prevents pollution
    4. Contains fewer toxic substances than alternate products
    5. Encourages environmentally positive practices
    6. Uses energy alternatives to fossil fuels
 
  1. EPA’s LIST OF DESIGNATED PRODUCTS
The following is a list of items which fall under the purchasing plan
  1. Construction Products (building insulation, carpet, carpet pad, cement and concrete, consolidated and reprocessed latex paint, floor tiles, flowable fill, laminated paperboard, modular threshold ramps, non-pressure pipes, patio blocks, railroad grade crossing surfaces, roofing materials, shower and restroom dividers/partitions, structural fiber board, nylon carpet and carpet backing)
  2. Landscape Products (compost and fertilizers made from recovered organic materials, garden and soaker hoses, hydraulic mulch, lawn and garden edging, plastic lumber landscaping timbers and posts)
  3. Miscellaneous Products (Awards and plaques, bike racks, blasting grit, industrial drums, manual-grade strapping, mats, pallets, signage, sorbents)
  4. Non-Paper Office Products (Binders, clipboards, file folders, clip portfolios, presentation folders, office furniture, office recycling containers, office waste receptacles, plastic desktop accessories, plastic envelopes, plastic trash bags, printer ribbons, toner cartridges)
  5. Paper and Paper Products (Commercial/industrial sanitary tissue products, misc. papers, newsprint, paperboard and packaging products, printing and writing papers)
  6. Park and Recreation Products (Park benches and picnic tables, plastic fencing, playground equipment, playground surfaces, running tracks)
  7. Transportation Products (Channelizers, delineators, flexible delineators, parking stops, traffic barricades, traffic cones)
  8. Vehicular Products (Engine coolants, rebuilt vehicular parts, re-refined lubricating oils, retread tires)
 
  1. SAFER CHOICE
10 East 53rd Street will utilize the EPA’s Safer Choice Label on each product used.
  1. The janitorial and facilities management team will head the efforts to utilize products with the EPA’s safer choice label beginning by swapping out previously utilized products with those that comply.

  1. RESPONSIBLE PARTY: This manager shall be responsible for communicating with tenant representatives and facilities management to ensure compliance with the details contained within this document as well as enforcing the requirements contained in this document.
